Part-time Content Operations Agent (NYC)

Location: New York, NY

Department: Content Operations

Type: Part Time

Min. Experience: Student (College) engages the public in public schools by giving people a simple, accountable, and personal way to address educational inequity. In this clip, board member Stephen Colbert tells our story.

Since our launch in 2000, more than 2.6 million “citizen philanthropists” have donated to projects on our site, channeling books, field trips, technology, and other resources to more than 22 million students in public schools, overwhelmingly from low-income households.  We helped to pioneer the field of crowdfunding and are now making an impact beyond school supplies.

Our dedicated team and the culture we’ve built together earned recognition as the #1 “Best Nonprofit to Work For” by the Nonprofit Times.

About the Team You’ll Work With:

The Content Operations, Projects & Gratitude team operationalizes storytelling and facilitates gratitude, with the support of 300 volunteers. Our team vets and posts each project request, from essay to shopping list, and then delivers the rewarding final touch to funded projects, the donor thank-you. Every day, a group of online teacher volunteers screen submitted projects, and in-office volunteers mail hand-written, crayon-covered student thank-yous to donors.

The Content Operations Agent is responsible for arming our teachers with everything they need to successfully submit a classroom project or complete a thank-you package.

About the Role:

As the department that processes student thank-yous, we think our customer service should embody the same qualities as a great thank-you letter: generosity, gratitude, and sometimes a little glitter. We’re looking for a teammate who can provide thoughtful, friendly customer service even on the rainiest of Mondays.

You will:

  • Communicate with teachers by email or phone about their classroom projects or thank-you packages.
  • Keep an eye peeled for patterns in teacher inquiries; these are opportunities to improve the teacher experience.
  • Provide support to Content Operations team goals as needed.

This Job Might be for You If:

  • You notice great (and not-so-great) customer service. You think your morning latte tastes best when poured by a happy, welcoming barista and you’re excited to provide that make-your-day moment for teachers.
  • You are an ace communicator. Your emails make people smile and you can explain just about anything to anyone.
  • You are a helper. You find it satisfying to help someone solve a problem and you’re willing to jump in wherever needed.
  • You are curious, creative, and open to learning from mistakes.
  • You are tech savvy and comfortable learning new programs and tools quickly. The idea of a fast paced startup-like environment excites you.
  • You are a recent graduate, current student, or professional who is motivated to work part-time for a mission-driven non-profit organization. A bachelor’s degree is not required, but is preferred.

The Extras:

Agents are encouraged to attend events like our monthly All Hands meeting, in-office education events, and social events like monthly birthday celebrations. We’ve also got snacks and coffee to keep you fueled.

The Details:

  • Hours: Flexible schedules. Between 20 – 30 hours a week, dependent on seasonal workload.
  • Location: national office in midtown Manhattan.
  • Length: July to November, with the possibility of continuing
  • Compensation: $15 per hour
