DonorsChoose.org engages the public in public schools by giving people a simple, accountable, and personal way to address educational inequity. In this clip, board member Stephen Colbert tells our story.
Since its launch in 2000, more than 3 million "citizen philanthropists" have donated to classroom projects on DonorsChoose.org, channeling books, field trips, technology, and other resources to more than 28 million students in public schools, overwhelmingly from low-income households. Along the way, the organization helped to pioneer the field of crowdfunding and is now making an impact beyond school supplies.
Thanks to our dedicated team and culture, DonorsChoose.org earned recognition as the #1 "Best Nonprofit to Work For" by the Nonprofit Times.
About the Team:
We operationalize storytelling and facilitate gratitude, with the support of over 300 volunteers. The Project Content and Fulfillment team vets and posts each project request from essay to shopping list, ensures that all materials and experiences make it to teachers and their classrooms, and delivers the rewarding final touch to funded projects: the donor thank-you.
While we have two volunteer programs, you’ll primarily work with one: our Gratitude Volunteers! Teachers, donors, and students come together in our office to process and mail handwritten student thank-yous from completed projects out to donors. Last school year alone, they mailed over 100,000 thank-you packages – or about 1 million individual thank-yous!
The Community Engagement Assistant will work with our Senior Community Engagement Associate and another Community Engagement Assistant to ensure that our Gratitude Volunteers have a rewarding, laughter-filled, and productive volunteer experience.
About the Role:
As the department that processes student thank-yous, we think our volunteer program should embody the same qualities of a great thank-you letter: generosity, gratitude, and sometimes a little glitter. We’re looking for a teammate who can foster an engaging and organized volunteer environment, even on the rainiest of Mondays.
Apply by submitting your resume and a cover letter addressed to Liam Cates, Senior Community Engagement Associate.
