Outreach Coordinator, Teacher Success (SF)

DonorsChoose.org engages the public in public schools by giving people a simple, accountable, and personal way to address educational inequity. In this clip, board member Stephen Colbert tells the organization's story.

Since its launch in 2000, more than 3 million "citizen philanthropists" have donated to classroom projects on DonorsChoose.org, channeling books, field trips, technology, and other resources to more than 28 million students in public schools, overwhelmingly from low-income households. Along the way, the organization helped to pioneer the field of crowdfunding and is now making an impact beyond school supplies.

Through its dedicated team and culture, DonorsChoose.org earned recognition as the #1 "Best Nonprofit to Work For" by the Nonprofit Times.

Team Overview

This role will sit on the Marketing & Community Team. Our goal this school year is to inspire  more than 700,000 individuals to give $75,000,000 to the 150,000 teachers who will post classroom projects on our website. To drive this revenue and teacher participation, we: 1) Build connections between our organization, teachers, partners and donors; 2) Empower and educate our community of teachers to be successful on DonorsChoose.org; 3) Inspire new and repeat givers to support classroom projects; 4) Listen to our teachers and donors to determine and advocate for their needs.

Our team also works closely with the Partnerships team, who collaborates with companies and foundations to join their support.

Primary Responsibilities

Every year, we work with corporate and foundation partners to bring funding to teachers across the US. In this role, you’ll work with your teammates to encourage and help teachers in the Bay Area post their first projects on DonorsChoose.org and benefit from a generous soon-to-be-announced Google.org grant focused on supporting local classrooms.

You’ll encourage Bay Area teachers to participate in online trainings, in addition to helping cultivate and support teachers across specific schools that will be receiving additional funding on DonorsChoose.org.

Engage Bay Area teachers with DonorsChoose.org

  • Connect with high school teachers across the Bay Area to drive awareness of a series of web trainings available on DonorsChoose.org.
  • Drive participation in these trainings through varied outreach channels, including email marketing and collaborations with school districts and local organizations
  • Experiment with additional marketing and grassroots tactics as needed, like referral programs, phone banking, and in-person school events.
  • Provide extra support to new Bay Area teachers to make sure they have a seamless experience getting started receiving funding on DonorsChoose.org.

Collaborate with teachers and partner organizations in prioritized Bay Area schools

  • Alongside external partners, build relationships with teachers and school leaders in a group of prioritized Bay Area high schools.
  • Track and analyze weekly data on teacher training and DonorsChoose.org engagement, sharing back results with external partners.
  • Work closely with external partners, sharing results and learnings ongoing to support teachers in those schools

Manage ongoing online trainings

  • Operationalize a series of online trainings hosted by DonorsChoose.org, experimenting with recordings and live webinars to maximize teacher attendance and engagement with content.
  • Ensure a smooth technical experience for webinar attendees.
  • Distribute DonorsChoose.org credits to attendees so they can bring new resources into their classrooms.

This position might be for you if:

  • You’re creative and analytical. You’re eager to try different strategies to see what works, and dig into the data to determine next steps.
  • You’re plugged into the Bay Area community, ideally already familiar with schools, districts, or teacher-facing organizations in the area.
  • You have hustle and get excited about working hard in pursuit of an ambitious goal.
  • You’re passionate about helping teachers have access to resources and ensuring all students have equal access to educational opportunities.
  • You love to talk to people—you’re comfortable going from a faculty-wide school training to hopping on the phone with a district superintendent.
  • You’re tech-savvy and quick to pick up new systems that can help streamline your work.
  • You are organized, thorough, and self-sufficient: you communicate consistently, stay on top of your to-do list, and you don’t miss deadlines.
  • You are a recent graduate, current graduate student, or professional who is motivated to work part-time for a mission-driven non-profit organization. A bachelor’s degree is not required, but is preferred.
  • Experience in the classroom and with Excel a plus.

The Extras:

We value teamwork, office culture, and professional development. Our part-time staff are encouraged to attend events like our monthly All Hands meeting, in-office education events, and social gatherings.

The Details:
