Trust & Safety Assistant (NYC)

About the Team

The Trust & Safety (T&S) team is responsible for ensuring that DonorsChoose.org is a charity that customers can trust and depend on. We are looking for a thoughtful problem solver who enjoys investigating possible risks to the integrity and reputation of the organization and is comfortable navigating challenging situations and multiple, concurrent projects.

You will:

  • Create and monitor reports on potentially high-risk activities on the site, and take action on any findings.
  • Help maintain accurate database of schools and district contacts using Salesforce and our internal database.
  • Provide guidance to internal stakeholders around project, teacher and school eligibility policies.
  • Investigate reports of misappropriation, and reach out to school administrators and other relevant parties to devise plans for moving forward.
  • Assist in planning and executing user eligibility and materials ownership audits.
  • Provide donation inventory reports for school administrators upon request, or in response to reports of misuse or ownership dispute.
  • Document policies, best practices, and training guides for team members as they relate to our Trust & Safety efforts.

  • Thorough, detail-oriented, and relentless when it comes to getting to the bottom of an issue.
  • An exceptional communicator, collaborator, and problem-solver.
  • Excited about solving mysteries with special attention paid to preserving the integrity of our organization.
  • Discreet and open-minded in response to reported concerns, inclined to give customers the benefit of the doubt.
  • Experienced learning new technical systems and working with datasets.
  • Able to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Empathetic and user-focused, with a knack for delivering disappointing news with a delicate tone and temper.

The Details:

  • Hours: Flexible schedules. Between 20 – 30 hours a week, dependent on seasonal workload.
  • Compensation: $15 per hour
